Wie ihr wisst, bin ich ein riesengroßer Fan Griechenlands. Das betrifft vor allem die Inseln. Ob Corfu, Kos, Kreta oder jetzt Rhodos, ich liebe diese Reiseziele und könnte mir ein Sommer ohne sie schlecht vorstellen.
As you know, I’m a huge fan of Greece – mainly the islands. It doesn’t matter if Corfu, Kos, Crete or now Rhodes, I love these destinations and can’t imagine spending my summer time without being there.
Kolympia – die laute Geisterstadt
Obwohl ich die griechischen Inseln oft besucht habe, war ich über Rhodos doch sehr überrascht. Es war so sauber (v. a. im Vergleich zu Kreta), grün und wunderschön.
Die kleine Stadt, in der wir untergebracht waren, ist rein touristisch geprägt – sobald die Saison um ist, leert sich die gesamte Stätte (inkl. Hotels) und Kolympia verwandelt sich in eine reine Geisterstadt. Schwer vorstellbar, bei dem ganzen Leben, das sich vor Ort abspielt.
Wenn ich von Leben spreche, meine ich nicht nur die Leute, die von überall aus der Welt kommen, um zu entspannen. Rhodos beheimatet ganz besondere Tierchen: die Zikaden. Grillen-ähnliche Insekten, die singen. Die (wenn man es überhaupt so nennen kann) “Melodie” ist eher ein lautes und geräuschvolles Zirpen, das einen den Schlaf rauben könnte. Doch da es aus der Natur kommt (ein natürliches Geräusch ist), gewöhnt man sich schnell daran, dass man es irgendwann überhaupt nicht mehr wahrnimmt …
Kolympia – the noisy ghost town
Although I had been to the Greek islands several times, I was pretty surprised about Rhodes. It was so clean (in comparison to Crete), green and beautiful.
The small city were we stayed was a typical tourist place – when season is over it gets empty and everything closes (incl. hotels) and Kolympia turns into a ghost city. Hard to imagine because of all the life that takes place there.
When I talk about life I do not only mean the people there, which come from countries all over the world. Rhodes is home to many cicadas – cricket-like (or grasshopper) insects, which sing. The (if you can even call it like that) “melody” is more like a loud and noisy chirr, that could make you crazy. But it’s a natural sound so you get used to it until you don’t even hear it anymore …
